Dr. Andrew J. Trontis is a fellowship-trained orthopaedic spine surgeon and New Jersey native with expertise in minimally invasive, motion-preserving, and robotic-assisted spinal surgery. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Moravian University and received both his master’s and medical degrees from Drexel University College of Medicine. He completed his orthopaedic surgery residency at MedStar Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland.

Dr. Trontis went on to complete advanced fellowship training at the renowned Cedars-Sinai Spine Center in Los Angeles—a combined orthopaedic and neurosurgical program focused on the full spectrum of spinal disorders. He also received specialized training in orthopaedic traumatology at the University of Maryland's R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center and pediatric orthopaedics at Johns Hopkins Children’s Center.
He is skilled in treating complex spinal conditions, including degenerative disc disease, spinal deformity, trauma, and revision surgeries. His clinical focus includes minimally invasive techniques, cervical and lumbar disc arthroplasty, and the use of advanced navigation and robotics.

Since 2019, he has served as a reviewer for The Spine Journal and was the Administrative Editor for the second edition of Spinal Instrumentation: Challenges and Solutions. In 2020, he was honored with the North American Spine Society’s prestigious “20 Under 40” Award. Earlier in his career, he received the Roger H. Michael Resident Research Award (2017), further highlighting his dedication to innovation and excellence in the field.
Dr. Trontis plays an active role in shaping the future of spine care through leadership positions in national societies. He has served on multiple committees within the North American Spine Society (NASS), including the Early Career Advisory Council, Research Funding Committee, Member Feedback Committee, and as Chair of the Education Project Implementation Subcommittee.
He is also involved with the Scoliosis Research Society (SRS), contributing to both the Awards and Scholarships Committee and the Website Committee. Previously, he served on the board of the Maryland Orthopaedic Association.
